ON THE COVER:
Climbing above a cloud deck, Boeing B-17G 44-8604 Section Eight of the 335th Bomb Squadron, 95th Bomb Group, heads for a target in Germany. The bomber arrived in England from the USA on 17 December 1944 at Horam, Suffolk. On 23 March 1945, it was damaged while on a raid to the railway marshalling yards at Holzeickede. Heading back to England, it appears the B-17G was attempting to get to the runway at Woodbridge, which was set aside for battle-damaged aircraft. However, it collided with another B-17G and crashed at nearby Campsea Ashe. There were no survivors. (USAAF)
